Balsamic Notes

Balsamic comes from balsam, the soothing resinous balms of old pharmacy, and in perfume it describes the sweet, warm softness shared by Peru balsam, tolu, benzoin and styrax. These materials evaporate slowly, so balsamic notes settle in the base, where their cinnamon-and-vanilla sweetness fixes lighter materials and a slight medicinal edge still recalls the ointment tin.
