cilantro
Cilantro splits people, smelling bright, green and citrusy to many and unmistakably soapy to others, a difference that has been linked in part to genes for smell receptors. Both impressions come from the same waxy aldehydes, chemical relatives of those in citrus peel, and in perfume the leaf is used in small doses, since the soapy reading lies close behind the citrus one.
