The smell of a fresh mushroom comes chiefly from octenol, often called mushroom alcohol, which is also part of the scent of the damp forest floor. As a note it brings earth and shade, a cool, musty richness under moss, patchouli and woods, and mushroom-like facets already run through materials such as gardenia and myrrh.
