Cotton candy is paired from the start with lavender and rosemary in Maurice Roucel's 2000 composition, so the herbs arrive sugared, their camphor blunted. Heliotrope, whose note rests on heliotropin, leads jasmine, rose and lily-of-the-valley toward vanilla, sandalwood, patchouli and cedar, a base that turns the confection woody.
