Buchu, a fynbos shrub whose leaves smell minty and camphoraceous with a catty blackcurrant tang, backs the black currant leaf of the heart, where mint, basil and eucalyptus gather into a brisk green thicket. Passionfruit gives the citrus of the opening tropical juice and bitter orange a sterner peel, while hawthorn, with its aniseed almond, and tonka soften cedar, moss and amber in the base.
