Akigalawood is made from patchouli oil by an enzymatic process, and it keeps patchouli's woodiness while shedding most of the damp earth and camphor. What comes forward is a dry, peppery spice with a smooth, oud-like woodiness, a way to suggest agarwood in woody and ambery compositions without its barnyard side.
