Indonesian Patchouli Leaf
Indonesia is the main source of patchouli oil, and its leaves reach the stills only after being dried and left to cure, since fresh patchouli smells of little more than a green herb. The traditional oil is dark and earthy, with a heavy, medicinal mustiness, and modern refining can strip that away to leave a cleaner, woodier patchouli, the version many recent compositions prefer.
