The bearded irises of spring gardens have a scent of their own, sweet and fruity and in some varieties strikingly grape-like, quite unlike the powdery orris taken from their rhizomes. An iris flower note is an accord, since the petals are not extracted commercially, and it usually pitches the orris-and-violet powder lighter and more floral, with less of the root's earth.
